Netizens React Over James Reid’s Selection as Millennial Pedro Penduko

James Reid has been selected to play the title role ofViva Film’s and Epik Studios’ adaptation of iconic comics folk superhero Pedro Penduko. This was announced during the History Conference 2017 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Pedro Penduko is a Pinoy folk superhero created by National Artist for Visual Arts Francisco V. Coching. Coching was known to have influenced a younger generation of illustrators and artists like Larry Alcala, Ben Infante and Nestor Redondo. Coching is also acknowledged as the “Dean of Filipino Illustrators.”

Pedro Penduko was last portrayed by Matt Evans in 2006 and 2007 in the ABS-CBN television series Komiks. The most popular Pedro Penduko film was last portrayed by Janno Gibbs, who appeared in two Pedro Penduko movies under Viva Films.

The reimagined Pedro Penduko is a millennial teen who grows up under the care of an adoptive father in the United States. After a mysterious and supernatural accident that happens to his adoptive father, Pedro Penduko returns to the Philippines where he finds that his real mother has been cursed by a supernatural being. The millennial Pedro Penduko soon learns that he is the chosen one to save their town from evil and metaphysical forces.
