Recently, cable television (TV) series and other exclusive online and mobile content series have been part of an emerging global trend in the realm of TV and online entertainment. Shows such as HBO’s Game of Thrones, online originals such as Netflix’s Stranger Things, and streamable Korean dramas have successfully conquered the viewing habits even of international communities, including the Philippines.

Cignal Entertainment by Cignal TV is now ready to give an all original Filipino content series through partnerships with Sari Sari Network, Unitel, Idea First, Content Cows and Masque Valley Production.

Some of the shows that they will launch include “Tukhang,” a socio-political commentary series produced by Masque Valley Production and “Born Beautiful,” which will feature Christian Bables as “Barbs” from the top-grossing Metro Manil Film Festival 2016 entry “Die Beautiful.” This time around, “Born Beautiful” will tackle Barbs’ story after Trisha’s death. On the other hand, the hit movie “Sleepless,” which starred Dominic Roco and Glaiza De Castro, will transform as a TV series starring Albie Casino, Mara Lopez, Trina Legaspi, Acey Aguilar, Shaira Mae and Martin Escudero. The new Sleepless is directed by Prime Cruz, written by Jen Chuaunsu, and produced by The IdeaFirst Company.

Going head-to-head with other international cable and online series will be a big challenge for Cignal Entertainment. This is a step up to the the game of producing relevant and quality mini-series by and for Filipino viewers. Ms. Jane Basas, Cignal TV President, is very optimistic about it: “Cignal cannot do this alone… So if you want to also create content with us, we are open! We want to create and put it across all platforms to make it available in mobile and other channels. I am very humbled to be among these great people who have done so much in the industry.”

Will media giants ABS-CBN and GMA Network also take the challenge of creating exclusive cable TV series following Cignal’s leap?
